Composition is the placement or arrangement of visual elements or ingredients in a work of art, as distinct from the subject of a work. It can also be thought of as the organization of the elements of art according to the principles of art. Value is the element of design that defines the light and dark's in an artwork. The most helpful warm up this unit for me was the value scale because it shows the different levels of shading using a pencil that I used in my pencil drawing.
The artist I am inspired by is Ruby Silvious. She uses used tea bags to create miniature paintings with water colors and ink. She was inspired while she was in Hyères, France. She attended Sage College in Albany NY for Graphic Design in 2006 and Siena College in Loudonville NY for Marketing Management in 2001. Silvious also went to Bisonte International School of Graphic Arts in FLorence Italy and has a book based on her “363 Days of Tea” piece. She is now a visual artist and graphic designer and uses a variety of techniques and styles in her artwork. Some of her artwork is featured in public and private collections. Her art is inspiring to me because she uses recycled and found materials to create something new. She also travels a lot to get inspired by the new surroundings and landmarks she visits. Ruby Silvious has a collection called 363 Days of Tea and that inspires me because its a original to use up-cycled materials and it shows that she was dedicated to her artwork each and everyday which shows that she is passionate about what she does. What draws me into her work is her use of the watercolors and inks blended together and her style of painting. She also incorporates different parts of the bag or tea label into her work. I also like how the tea bag painting has a distressed look to it since it has been used once before. For more information about Ruby Silvious go to http://www.rubysilvious.com/
